TV recycling bill awaits Perry

The Texas Senate passed the Television TakeBack which requires television manufacturers to provid e Texas residents with free and convenient recycling forused TVs. Authored by Rep. Davied Leibowitz, D-San Antonio, and sponsored by Sen. Kirk Watson, the bill follows one passec in 2007 that set up a recycling prograkm for computersand monitors. Olde r televisions typically contain between four and eight pounds of which can cause health problems when it enters the water or according to the Texas Campaign forthe Meanwhile, newer flat screens contain mercury, and almost all electronicsa are coated with brominated fire retardants and otherr chemicals.
Current programs for recycling televisionsis limited. Goodwill locationsx across the state will accept old TVs thatstill work, but the cost or recyclin is sometimes prohibitive for non-working
