The resignations of Gary Reynolds and Janice Marquix come about two weeks before councilors for of which MERC isa subsidiary, plan to vote on a measurw that would give the council more control over MERC’s generaol manager. The move could ostensibly lead to the firingh of MERC General ManagerDavid Woolson, who’s under fire from Presidenf David Bragdon. Reynolds and Marquis both opposethe proposal. president of the Portland accounting firmPerkine & Co., mentioned the buildintg problems between Metro and MERC in his resignationj letter. “During the economic times, my attention needs to be focusedx on our clients atPerkins & Co.
,” Reynoldzs wrote in his letter to “That said, I am disappointed in the receny breakdown in the working relationshiop between the Metro Council and the , and believs it could have been handled differently.” Marquis, a commercial real estate broker and the commission’s vice chair, didn’t mention the upcoming proposal in her letter to Bragdon, but resigned two years before her term was set to end. In a lette to Portland city commissioners earlieerthis month, Marquis and commissionb member Ray Leary urgee the council to help delay Metro’ s vote on the MERC oversight matter.
Leary, Reynolds and three of the other four remaininv MERC commissions also sent Bragdon a letterbackinhg Woolson. The letter came after Bragdon questioned the leadership of MERC Genera l ManagerDavid Woolson. The other commissionj member, Don Trotter, resigned last montuh and will leave the boardJune 30. Reynolds’ resignation takes effect June 30. Marquis’ takes effect July 15. The terms of Trottet and Reynolds would have expired at the end of 2009 while term was to expire at the endof 2010.
