Jimmy Flannigan, the former president of the hasstepped down. Chad Peevy, formerly executive vice president, has taken over as president. “Jimmy has worked incredibl long and hard hourz to promote the Gay andLesbiam Chamber, gay and gay-friendlu business, Austin Pride, and the Austin lesbian and gay communitt as a whole,” Peevy said. “We are looking forward to buildinvg upon the groundworkof collaboration, cooperation and community he laid.” Flannigan has led the Gay and Lesbian Chamber since 2007. He resignedf his position to pursue other interests and to focux onSite Street, his Web design and hosting, and e-commerce business.
In the last two years the Gay and Lesbiajn Chamber publishedForward Austin, a quarterly magazine, and has been one of the only lesbiam and gay chambers in the nation to producre and organize a Pride Parade in its “No doubt about it, 2009 was one of the best Pridse celebrations Austin has seen, and I [attribute] that to the entir e [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] community coming together,” Peevy said. “But … there is room for and we’re committed to makingy those improvements.
” According to the Gay and Lesbiab Chamber, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communitgy makes up 7 to 12 percentyof Austin’s population, the sixth largestr per capita in the and the largest per capitaz in the Southern United States.
